PROGRAM NOTES
Piano Quartet explores different ways of juxtaposing musical material. The various gestures, phrases and melodies are different durations, so when they are combined, the counterpoint shifts creating a variety of combinations. The result can be unpredictable and disorienting, although the familiarity of the repeated phrases creates an aural anchor to latch on to. The overall mood of the piece is somber and haunting.
